TR News: U.S. Domestic Scan Program

Client: U.S. Domestic Scan Program, part of the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP 20-68A)
Audience: Scan participants, state DOT practitioners, local and regional road agencies

CTC’s research for NCHRP, Accelerating the Rate of Innovation Among State DOTs—Tracing Domestic Scan Impacts, documents how innovative technologies and practices are spread from one state department of transportation to another. Our interviews with domestic scan participants reveal how they learn about new approaches, share them with colleagues and begin to implement them at their home agencies. This cover article coauthored by CTC in the January–February 2012 issue of TRB’s TR News provides examples of the effectiveness of the program. The program’s website, developed and maintained by CTC, explains the goals of the program; provides a current list of scans, participants, final scan reports and PowerPoints; and details the findings of CTC research.
